News About the CFA Program
24 January Update
As you know, because the CFA Program is not registered with the AICTE, CFA Institute has not been accepting CFA Program registrations from within India. Earlier this month, we met with the AICTE in order to understand our options, and we have now submitted our application to the AICTE. While our application is under consideration, we will continue to work with them to resume conducting the CFA exam at test centers in India.
We will now permit people within India to enroll in the CFA Program and register to sit for the June and December 2008 exams at test centers outside of India. We have revised our online registration process to reflect this availability. Again, we emphasize that we have not received approval from AICTE to offer the CFA exams at test centers in India, but people within India may select from more than 175 test centers around the world.
Thank you for your patience, good faith, and dedication to the CFA Program

hi
tats some good news finally coming out... and giving much needed clarity for all of us!! better late than never!!
nihag, since you are appearing for l3... wanted your view on l2. I completely understand its subjective but none the less do you think the prep time (4 months / 16 weeks) is enuf for l2.
anyone whos appeared for l2 are most welcome to give their feedback.

I guess by 4 months u mean 384 hours (assuming u devote daily 1.5-2 hrs and weekends around 7 hrs) +/- 10% thts should be suffice if you have financial background....
if not then u need to work a lil harder putting more in the weekend slab..
also the familairity with particular subjects matter a lot so the time needed can vary drastically but the above can be more or less sufficent time..

registered for L2- Bangkok -again!. hopefully the Mumbai center will be valid in the months to come and we'll all be able to take it in India after all.
Any idea if we need to pay any customs charges in India for getting the CFA curriculum (bundled with the fees)?

Hey Guys,
Has anybody registered today for L1. I have updated all my details with local Address as in India, and wanted to choose singapore as my test center. After I click on the button register next to singapore an error message is thrown saying details not completely filled. But when I go back to the main menu under registration there is a tick mark next to all the appropriate columns. So, i assume the details have been updated but considering the Indian address, the system is still not allowing students to register from India.
Has anyone else faced a similar problem? or is there anyone who tried to register today by updating the whole profile? if you were successful please post a reply. Or else I need to call CFA(US) to enquire.

Does the examination fee also consist cost of books. What if a candidate is already having books.I tried to get registered and was able to do so, but I stoopped while making the payment as I was not clear about books cost.

fees includes the curriculum. there is no way you already 'have' the books for 2008. the curriculum gets changed/updated upto 20-30% each year and is rewritten everytime.
what you might possess is an older version.
CFAI is a cruel monopoly, but the students have no option but to purchase the books from 2008 onwards.
this applies to all 3 levels
ps: some conspiracy theorists believe that this move by CFAI is a well planned strategy so that they can have a 'larger pass percentage in 2008' and then claim that it is caused by students studying from the curriculum as opposed to just prep providers like stalla/schweser.

Hi Friends
Congratulations to all on being able to register for the exam. Hopefully this will bring the uncertainty to an end though ideally we should soon have the clarification whether the exams are going to be held in India or not.
Hi Nihag
I totally agree with you. Although the CFAI website mentions that most candidates spend about 250 hours preparing for the exam, given the fact that Indian candidates are generally not familiar with the American financial system / terminology, 350 hours seems to be a more accurate estimate of the time that needs to be spent to pass each level.
Hi Dsylexic
I don't think customs charges are levied as the curriculum material is for academic / research purposes and not for resale.

Hi all,
Congrats for passing L1/L2 this Dec. I too cleared it this Dec and planning to appear for L2 in June.
Any idea where to download Schweser 2008 L2 PDF books from the net?
